Overview

What is a Force Converter?

A Force Converter changes a force measurement from one unit to another. It is useful for mechanics, physics homework, product specs, engineering notes, classroom examples, and mixed-unit spreadsheets.

Force is not the same as pressure or torque. A newton-to-pound-force conversion is different from newtons per square inch or pound-feet of torque, so keep the source unit label clear before converting.

How the Force Converter works

Enter the force value, choose the source unit, then choose the target unit. The output updates automatically when the amount or either unit changes.

The current Force Converter code converts through newtons as the shared base unit. It multiplies the input by the source unit rate, divides by the target unit rate, and formats the result with seven significant digits.

The swap control reverses the units and uses the current result as the new input. The copy control writes the visible result to your clipboard.

Force conversion examples

If a value is 100 N, newtons to pound-force gives about 22.4809 lbf. If a specification lists 10 lbf, lbf to newton gives about 44.4822 N. If a worksheet uses 5 kgf, kgf to newton gives about 49.0333 N.

For larger loads, 2 kN equals about 449.618 lbf. For small or older CGS references, 50,000 dynes equals 0.5 N.

Common force conversions and use cases

These common force conversions target the pairs people search for most often while staying within the supported force units.

Popular conversionFormulaExample
Newtons to pound-forceN x 0.224808943100 N = 22.4809 lbf
Pound-force to newtonslbf x 4.4482216210 lbf = 44.4822 N
KGF to newtonkgf x 9.806655 kgf = 49.0333 N
Newton to KGFN x 0.101971621100 N = 10.1972 kgf
kN to lbfkN x 224.8089432 kN = 449.618 lbf
Dyne to newtondyn x 0.0000150,000 dyn = 0.5 N
Ounce-force to newtonozf x 0.27801385116 ozf = 4.44822 N
Kip-force to newtonkipf x 4448.221621 kipf = 4448.22 N

Force conversions matter when a value describes a push, pull, load, or thrust.

SituationUseful conversionsWhy it helps
Physics homeworknewtons to lbf, kgf to newtonProblems may ask for SI units even when examples use familiar force labels.
Engineering noteskN to lbf, lbf to newtonLoads and thrust values often need comparison across unit systems.
Product specificationsnewtons to pound-force, ounce-force to newtonSmall devices and components may list force in different units.
Mechanical exampleskip-force to newton, ton-force to newtonLarge loads need larger force units for readability.
Older scientific referencesdyne to newtonCGS unit examples sometimes use dynes.
Spreadsheet cleanupkgf to newton, lbf to newtonShared data is easier to compare when normalized to one unit.
